How to track competitor prices on Shopify
Track the same exact product and variant over time, record the displayed one-time price, currency and store-reported stock, and keep uncertain observations as unknown. A small, consistent evidence log is more useful than a large sheet of mixed products.

The manual method
Five steps that preserve the meaning of the price
- 1
Choose one exact product and variant
Match the same model, size, colour, pack quantity and condition. Save the public product URL, not a homepage, search result or collection page.
- 2
Record what a buyer can actually see
Capture the displayed one-time price, currency, selected variant and the store's own stock wording. Keep a screenshot or copied evidence beside the observation.
- 3
Separate price types
Do not mix a subscription price, compare-at price, unit price or coupon price with the ordinary one-time purchase price. If the meaning is unclear, record unknown.
- 4
Repeat on a fixed schedule
Revisit the same URL and variant at the same cadence. Log the observation time even when nothing changed, so a gap is not mistaken for a stable price.
- 5
Review changes before acting
Check the live page again before changing your own price. A variant switch, market currency, pre-order or stale page can look like a genuine competitor move.
What to log
One row per observation
- Competitor and exact public product URL
- Product identity and selected variant
- Displayed one-time price and currency
- Store-reported in-stock or out-of-stock state
- Date, time and supporting screenshot or note
Why exact variants matter
Shopify products can carry variant-specific prices and inventory. Shopify also distinguishes a current price from a compare-at price, while storefronts can show unit pricing. A useful comparison therefore keeps the variant and price meaning attached to every observation.

What RivalScraper checks today
Start with one exact Shopify product URL
The free read-only check verifies whether RivalScraper can support the displayed one-time price, currency, exact URL and store-reported stock. Subscription-only prices, pre-orders, ambiguous stock, blocked pages and incomplete evidence are rejected rather than guessed.
Run the compatibility checkQuestions about Shopify competitor tracking
What should a Shopify competitor price sheet contain?
Keep the competitor, exact product URL, variant, displayed one-time price, currency, store-reported stock, observation time and an evidence note. Never overwrite an old row; add a new dated observation.
Should I track collection pages?
Use exact product pages instead. Shopify exposes product-level minimum and maximum variant prices, which do not identify the exact price of a selected variant.
Can RivalScraper automate this workflow today?
The free compatibility check is live for exact public Shopify product URLs. Monitored signup remains in early access and is not open until the reliability gate passes.
